IAC SOFTBALL: HAMMOND, MENNIG POWER WAVERLY TO 3-0 WIN OVER JOHNSON CITY (2018-05-14)

JOHNSON CITY — Junior Wendi Hammond pitched a complete-game shutout, and senior Zoe Mennig clubbed a home run to lead Waverly to a 3-0 lead over Johnson City here Monday afternoon in non-league softball action.

Hammond allowed three singles in a seven-inning outing to earn the win. She fanned 11 and walked just one, throwing 103 pitches.

Hammond led off the game with a single to center field, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI double to center field by sophomore Riley Hall.

In the third inning, Hammond led off with a ground-ball single up the middle. With two outs, Mennig hit a 1-1 pitch over the center-field fence to give the Lady Wolverines a 3-0 lead.

Hammond had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs, and Mennig homered, and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI to pace Waverly’s eight-hit attack.

Hall doubled and drove in a run in the win, while junior Jordan Mente, and senior Paige Miller each singled.

Waverly improves to 13-4 on the season.
