ATHENS LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): JAY'S CARPET ONE HOLDS OFF LATE I-R FCU RALLY IN 9-7 WIN. (2018-06-07)

ATHENS — Jay’s Carpet One scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and held off a late rally by I-R FCU in a 9-7 win here Tuesday evening in Athens Little League Minors Division baseball action.

I-R FCU scored three runs in the fourth inning to close the gap to 6-4, but Jay's plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead back to 9-4. I-R FCU scored three runs in the top of the sixth, and had the bases loaded when Jay's shortstop Adam Kemp fielded the final out.

Duncan Thetga stroked three singles, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Brodie Walker singled, scored two runs, and had tour RBI to account for Jay’s Carpet One’s four hits in the win, while Wilson Kinsman had two RBI, and Kemp, Lucas Schultz, and Austyn Stedge each scored two runs.

Thetga earned the win for Jay’s, allowing three runs — two earned — on two hits, while striking out five and walking one in three innings on the mound.

Cooper Robinson homered and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run to lead I-R FCU at the plate, while Ryan Driesbaugh doubled and scored two runs, Charan Venkataswamy singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Joseph Dickerson singled and knocked in a run, and Braden Quinn scored one run and drove in two runs.
