CICERO, N.Y. — The 2017-18 sports season in New York State comes to an end this afternoon with Waverly sophomore Isaac Chandler, and Waverly senior Elle Nittinger in action at the New York State Division 2 Track & Field Championships here at the Cicero / North Syracuse High School.

Chandler, who finished sixth in the pole vault at the Section IV State Qualifier last year with a vault of 13-feet, finished second this year at 14-feet, 6-inches.

Chandler and Trumansburg’s Dom Mikula are tied for the second seed at 14-feet, 6-inches. Ravena sophomore Shane Racey is the top seed at 15-feet.

The pole vault competition begins at 3:30 p.m.

Nittinger, who finished fourth in the discus last year at the Section IV State Qualifier, with a toss of 105-feet, 8-inches. Her school-record toss of 116-feet, 7-inches from the Class B Championships would have finished third at States in 2017.

Valhalla’s Samantha Morillo finished second at States last year with a toss of 117-feet, 2-inches as a junior. She is the top seed this year at 145-feet, 7-inches.

Nittinger is the seventh seed at 116-feet, 7-inches.

The Division 2 girls discus competition begins with 4:30 p.m.
