THE VALLEY — Tioga dominated the IAC South Small School Division this year, and also dominated the postseason all-star team with six players landing first-team honors and three more receiving honorable mention recognition, while S-VE had two named to the first team, and one honorable mention.
Derrick Barto, junior, Tioga: A solid defender at second base, Barto hit .410 (22 hits in 61 ABs) with three doubles, 21 RBI, and 27 runs scored.
Barto was also 3-0 on the mound with a 1.65 ERA. He allowed 16 hits and eight walks, while striking out 33 in 17 innings.
Jacob Grier, senior, S-VE: A solid defender at a variety of positions, Grier hit .294 (15 hits in 51 ABs) with five RBI, six runs scored, and four stolen bases.
Pierce Hendershot, junior, Tioga: A slick-fielding shortstop with a high baseball IQ, Hendershot hit a team-high .514 (38 hits in 74 ABs) with six doubles, 21 RBI, and a team-high six triples, three home runs, 47 runs scored and 18 stolen bases.
He also drew 23 walks for a .640 on-base percentage, a slugging percentage of .878, and an OPS of 1.518.
Hendershot was 5-2 on the mound with a 1.62 ERA. He allowed 32 hits and walked 11 in 39 innings, while striking out 61.
Connor Hutchinson, senior, Tioga: Hutchinson enjoyed an all-star season after not having played since eighth grade. He hit .459 (34 hits in 74 ABs) with a team-high nine doubles, one triple, one home run, a team-high 26 RBI and 30 runs scored. He drew nine walks for a .529 on-base percentage, and had a .649 slugging percentage for a 1.178 OPS.
Justin Rockwell, senior, Tioga: A solid defender at third base, Rockwell hit .328 (21 hits in 64 ABs) with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, eight stolen bases, and 26 runs scored. He drew 15 walks and had a .494 on-base percentage.
Zach Sherwood, senior, S-VE: A good defensive catcher, Sherwood hit .420 (21 hits in 50 ABs) with seven doubles, one triple, six RBI, 13 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases.
Sherwood was 3-5 with a 1.17 ERA. He allowed 35 hits and walked 13 in 42 innings, while striking out 69. Opposing batters hit .198 against him.
Mitch Taylor, senior, Tioga: Taylor hit .446 (33 hits in 74 ABs) with eight doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBI, 35 runs scored and seven stolen bases. He drew 12 walks for a .523 on-base percentage, and had a slugging percentage of .649 for a 1.172 OPS.
Taylor was 2-1 with a 1.19 ERA. He allowed 21 hits and 18 walks in 29 2/3 innings, while striking out 53.
Brady Worthing, sophomore, Tioga: A good defensive outfielder with very good range, Worthing was also a solid defender at shortstop when Hendershot was on the mound.
Worthing hit .323 (21 hits in 65 ABs) with four doubles, 17 runs scored, 11 RBI, and six stolen bases. He drew 12 walks and had an on-base percentage of .436.
Mason Booser, sophomore, Tioga: Booser hit .346 (27 hits in 79 Abs) with five doubles, one home run, 21 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
Thomas Cook, sophomore, Tioga: Cook hit .323 (20 hits in 62 Abs) with one double, 12 RBI, and 12 runs scored.
Billy Baker, junior, S-VE: Baker was 1-3 on the mound with a 2.51 ERA. He struck out 24 in 22 1/3 innings.
Derrick Gage, freshman, Tioga: Gage hit .315 (17 hits in 54 Abs) with four doubles, one triple, 15 RBI, and 14 runs scored.
