WAVERLY — The Tom’s Hardware / S&J General Contractors Giants scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to break open a tie game in a wild 16-9 win over the PS Bank / C&N Bank Cubs here Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

The Giants took a quick 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. They started the game with singles by Jay Pipher and Kadyn Whitney, a double by Aiden Doherty, and a single by Nathan DeLill. Brian Hicks added a single later in the inning, and Pipher capped the scoring with a double.

The Cubs answered with two runs in the home half of the first inning on a two-out solo home run by Jake VanHouten, and back-to-back doubles by Roger Webster and Nathaniel Chapman.

The Cubs took advantage of four base on balls in the bottom of the second inning. Tristan Campbell and Ryan Bostwick singled in the rally, and Keaton Anderson capped the rally with a double to give the Cubs with a 7-6 lead.

The Giants scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 9-7 lead, but the Cubs used runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the game at 9-9.

After a lead-off double by DeLill in the top of the sixth, Trenton Sindoni and Hicks delivered back-to-back singles, Ralph Johnson and Nate Kellogg belted back-to-back doubles, and Pipher and Whitney stroked consecutive singles.

Pipher had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs, and DeLill had three hits, including a double, and scored one run to pace the Giants’ 18-hit attack, and Whitney stroked three singles and scored two runs.

Johnson doubled and singled and scored two runs in the win, while Doherty doubled and singled, and scored one run, Hicks and Sindoni singled twice and scored two runs, and Kellogg doubled and scored one run.

Webster doubled and singled and scored two runs to lead the Cubs at the plate, while Nathaniel Chapman doubled and singled, and Ryan Bostwick singled and scored two runs.

VanHouten hit a solo homer in the loss, while Anderson doubled, Mark Emanuel singled, Campbell singled and scored one run, and Tyler Chapman and Jake Besecker each scored one run.
