YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): NICHOLS-TIOGA BATS STRUGGLE IN LOSS TO CV AT OWEGO TOURNEY (11 PHOTOS) (2018-07-20)

Valley Sports Report
OWEGO The Nichols-Tioga Little League 12U All-Stars struggled to get their game clicking, dropping a 5-3 heartbreaker to Chenango Valley in bracket play at the Owego Little League 10U / 12U Tournament Friday.

NTLL's defense held CV in check, allowing just one hit, but only managed two in the loss.

After giving up a run on a walk and three wild pitches in the top of the first, NTLL tied the game in its half of the inning. Shea Bailey led off with a triple to right field that scooted past the fielder, and with one out, Ben Davis delivered an RBI single.

Christian Polkowski scored for CV on a wild pitch in the second and NTLL stranded two base runners.

CV pushed its advantage to 4-1 in the third. Anthony Gianisis was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Jimmy Fitzgerald walked and scored on a throwing error on Finn Dolaway's bunt.

NTLL climbed right back in it as Drew Macumber and Davis walked in the bottom of the third. Macumber stole a pair of bases and crossed the plate on a bad throw on the second steal, and Davis laterscored on a wild pitch.

NTLL would come up with a pair of big defensive plays. The first came in the fourth when Justin White got caught in a rundown between second and third while trying to steal. The next was a running, leaping catch by right fielder Levi Bellis in the fifth.

Unfortunately for NTLL, CV added a fifth run just before the Bellis catch on Fitzgerald's RBI double.

Logan Bellis reached base in the fourth and sixth, and Karson Sindoni and Davis made it safely in the fifth, but each was left stranded.

Sindoni didn't allow a hit, and gave up four walks while striking out five in 2 1/3 innings.  Macumber struck out three in 3 2/3 innings, walked four and gave up one run on one hit.

Fitzgerald was a workhorse for CV, throwing 118 pitches and striking out eight batters.

NTLL plays Newark Valley today at 10:45 a.m.
