Valley Sports Report for Penn York Valley

BINGHAMTON Tioga junior Sam Taylor led from start to finish to capture the Triple Cities Golf Association Junior Championship, 16- to 18-year-old division, at Binghamton Country Club Monday.

Taylor birdied the 355-yard, par-4 first hole and never looked back, finishing at two-over-par 73.

His even-par 36 on the front nine also included a birdie on the 441-yard, par-5 fourth hole. Back-to-back bogies on No. 8 and 9 left him at even par at the turn.

Taylor's lead was threatened briefly on the 12th hole when his ball found a ditch in the rocks and he had to take an unplayable lie and a triple-bogey 7. After bogeying No. 13, he birdied the 518-yard, par-5 15th, and the 404-yard, par-4 17th.

Alex Hubal, who was four strokes back at the turn, finished second with a 79. Darren Jahelka, the only other player to shoot under 40 on the front nine (38) placed third with an 81.

Taylor played in just three TCGA events this season, winning two of them.
