BUFFALO — Former Valley rivals — Waverly grad Peyton Miller and Tioga grad Adam Zwierlein — squared off once again on the gridiron, with Miller helping Utica College to a 36-3 win over Buffalo State here Saturday afternoon in Empire-8 Conference action.
Buffalo State scored first late in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. After a safety trimmed the deficit to 3-2, Miller caught a 3-yard TD pass late in the second quarter to give the Pioneers the lead for good at 9-3.
Utica College led 12-3 at the half, and blew the game open in the second half.
Miller hauled in seven receptions for a season-high 155 yards, including a season-long 54-yard catch.
On the season, Miller has a team-best 67 receptions and 837 receiving yards. He also has five TD catches.
Zwierlein matched his season high with five tackles, including three solo stops. He also combined on a tackle-for-loss.
On the season, Zwierlein has 23 tackles, including 11 solo tackles. He also has 1.5 tackles-for-losses and one fumble recovery.
Utica College, now 5-4, returns to action Saturday at Hartwick, while Buffalo State (1-8) wraps up the 2018 campaign at St. John Fisher.
