|IAC BOYS BOWLING: POND LEADS TIOGA IN 3-1 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2018-11-29)

WAVERLY — Tioga had three bowlers roll 600 series, led by junior Kolton Pond, in a 3-1 win over Waverly here Thursday afternoon in IAC boys bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.
Tioga won the first game 1,089-901, but Waverly bounced back for a 1,021-1,020 win — thanks to a 289 by junior Derrick Canfield — in the second game. Tioga closed out the match with a 1,018-841 win for a total-pinfall victory of 3,127 to 2,763.
Pond rolled a 689 series on games of 278, 189, and 222, while senior Jason Sherman shot a 650 on games of 236, 227, and 187, and senior A.J. Middendorf rolled a career-high 628 series on 228. 207, and 193.
Senior Eric Sherman added a 587 for the Tigers, including games of 204 and 246, while senior Mason Trollman added a 545, and Rocco Fariello chipped in with a 476.
Canfield led Waverly with a 672 series on games of 223, 289, and 160, and 8th-grader Zach Vanderpool shot a 605 on games of 203, 192, and 210.
Eighth-grader rolled a 509 series for the Wolverines, while sophomore Matt Mauersberg had a 489, 7th-grader Carter Hayes added a 463, and sophomore Richard Stevens chipped in with a 441.
Tioga, now 7-1, hosts Newark Valley Tuesday, while Waverly (9-3) travels to Thomas A. Edison.
