THE VALLEY  The New York State wrestling season begins this weekend with Waverly and Tioga both in action at different two-day tournaments.

WRESTLING
Tioga at Matt Marino Invite, 5 p.m. @ Webster-Schroeder H.S.:
The Tigers will send just nine wrestlers to the rugged Marion Tournament, due to some wrestlers still healing up from football season.

Scheduled to be in action will be seniors Austin Lamb, John Worthing, and Vinny Sullivan, juniors Brady Worthing and David MacWhinnie, freshman Mason Welch, 8th-grader Emily Sindoni, and 7th-graders Gianni Silvestri and Caden Bellis.

There are 18 teams scheduled to be in attendance, including Alexander, Brockport, Elmira, Fairport, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Marcellus, Mexico, Phoenix, Niagara-Wheatfield, U-E, Victor, Warsaw, and host Webster-Schroeder.

Waverly at Mark Stephens Classic, 5 p.m.:
The Wolverines have 23 wrestlers, including just three seniors, in the room this season, a marked improvement from the 11 on the roster last season.

The eight-team field will also include Chenango Valley, powerhouse Fulton, Gouverneur, Johnson City, and host Horseheads.
