THE VALLEY The winter season kicks into high gear this week in New York, while action in Pa. begins Friday.

Perhaps the marque event of the week comes Friday and Saturday when the Athens wrestlers host the annual Jarvis Memorial Tournament.

There are 24 events on the docket this week, including eight Friday, six Tuesday, and one on Sunday.

The following are some not all of the top events this week:

  The Tioga bowlers make up their match against Groton, which was postponed by bad weather earlier this season.

  The Waverly boys host Newark Valley in a key IAC boys basketball match-up, while the Lady Wolverines travel to Newark Valley.

  The Tioga boys host Candor, while the Lady Tigers are on the road against the Lady Indians.

  Waverly wrestling hosts Newark Valley in IAC dual opener.

  The Tioga bowlers host Thomas A. Edison.

  The Tioga girls play a non-league contest at Unatego.


  Athens wrestling hosts the Jarvis Memorial Tournament.

  The Sayre boys take on Blue Ridge in the opening game of the Susquehanna-Bradford County Challenge at Wyalusing High School.

  The Sayre girls take on Western Wayne in the opening round of the Towanda Tip-Off Tournament. The consolation and finals are Saturday.

  The Waverly boys swimmers host Sayre.

  The Waverly girls host Notre Dame on the hardwoods, while the boys travel to ND.

  The Tioga girls host Newfield, while the boys are on the road against the Trojans.

  Athens wrestling hosts Day 2 the Jarvis Memorial Tournament.

  Sayre and Waverly wrestling are in action at the Wyalusing Duals.

  The Tioga wrestlers are on the road at the Gouverneur Duals.

  Due to the Wyalusing Duals on Saturday, the Sayre boys basketball team will play Susquehanna in the second game of the Susquehanna-Bradford County Challenge on Sunday.
