IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: DRYDEN RALLIES TO EDGE WAVERLY IN FINAL MINUTE, 41-39 (2019-01-13)

WAVERLY - Waverly led by as many as 12 points in the first half, and led by nine points heading to the fourth quarter, but Dryden used a 16-5 run to rally for a 41-39 win here Friday night in IAC junior varsity girls basketball action.

Waverly had five different players reach the scoring column, including Alyssa Sindoni, who canned a 3-pointer, and led 10-9 after the first quarter, despite making just 1 of 4 free-throw attempts.

Sindoni scored five points in the second quarter, and Olivia Nittinger and Paige Robinson added four points apiece to help the Lady Wolverines extend their lead to 26-18 at the half. It could have been a bigger lead, but Waverly made just 4 of its 11 attempts from the free-throw line.

NIttinger scored six points in the third as Waverly added to its lead, 34-25, heading into the final eight minutes. It was Dryden turn at the line in the quarter, making just 1 of 7 shots.

Dryden had five different players find the scoring column in the fourth quarter, and took the lead at 40-39 with 24.5 seconds remaining.

Waverly made just 8 of 21 free-throw shots in the game, while Dryden made just 8 of 17.

Nittinger led a balanced Waverly offense with 12 points, while Sindoni had eight, Lourden Benjamin had six points, Peyton Shaw added five points, and Robinson and Hali Jenner chipped with four points apiece.

Waverly hosts Newark Valley Tuesday evening.
