NEWARK VALLEY - Newark Valley overcome an early deficit with three strong quarters of play to post a 65-60 win over Waverly here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

Davis Croft pumped in 11 points in the first quarter, and Liam Traub drained a 3-pointer to help Waverly to a 21-17 lead after the first eight minutes.

Brenton Rosenberg scored seven points in the second quarter, while Jacob Armstrong scored six points, and Raidyn Ford, who had eight points in the first quarter, added five points as Newark Valley rallied to take a 37-36 lead at the halftime intermission.

Croft scored eight more points in the second quarter, and Liam Traub knocked another 3-pointer.

Ford scored six more points in the third quarter, and Armstrong added four points as the Cardinals increased their lead to 51-46 entering the final eight minutes.

Ford scored nine points in the fourth quarter to offset 3-pointers by Liam Traub and Brennan Traub.

Croft led Waverly with 27 points, 10 points, three steals, and three blocked shots, while Liam Traub had 13 points, including four 3-pointers, six rebounds, four blocked shots, and three assists, and  Brennan Traub added seven points and a blocked shot.

Joey Tomasso had six points for the junior Wolverines, and Blauvelt had four points, five rebounds, and a blocked shot.

Ford pumped in 28 points to lead Newark Valley, while Armstrong scored 15 points, Rosenburf had nine points, Jaden Short added seven points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Spoonhower chipped in with six points.
