SAYRE - Sayre jumped out to a quick double-digit lead and cruised to a 63-38 win over Cowanesque Valley here Wednesday evening in NTL Small School junior varsity girls basketball action.

CV scored the first bucket, but that was its only lead of the game as a bucket by Zach Belles, off a feed from Matt Lane, triggered a 10-0 run that gave Sayre the lead for good. Donnie Abrams scored four points in the run that gave the junior Redskins a 10-2 lead.

Sayre scored the final eight points of the first quarter - four by Abrams and four by Brayden Horton - to take an 18-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Connor Young scored the first bucket of the second quarter to extend the lead to 20-4.

CV closed the gap to 26-11, but the Redskins reed off nine straight points, with Dylan Watkins scoring the five in a row, to take a 35-11 with 20 seconds remaining in the first half.

Sayre took its biggest lead, at 47-19, early in the third quarter, and never led by less than 18 for the remainder of the game.

Belles led Sayre with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Abrams scored 10 rebounds and grabbed five boards, Fabbri had eight points, and three assists, and Watkins added seven points and two blocked shots.

Josh Arnold and Young scored five points apiece in the win, while Brayden Horton had five points, five boards, and here steals, Matt Lane had four points, five assists, and three steals, and Donovan Wynn had four points and five rebounds.

Sayre returns to action Friday at Canton.
