THE VALLEY - The Waverly boys have seven top-seeded swimmers at this afternoon's Section IV, Class C preliminaries, while Sayre hosts the NTL Swimming & Diving Championships as action in the pool takes center stage.

BOYS SWIMMING
Class C Preliminaries, 4:30 p.m. @ Watkins Glen:
Waverly earned the top seed in 7 of the 12 events at today's Section IV, Class C preliminaries.

Junior Mike Atanasoff is the top seed in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle sprints, while senior Trent Wright is the top seed in the 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Kaden Wheeler is the top seed in the 100-yard backstroke, and junior Gage Streeter is the top seed in the 1-meter diving competition.

The Wolverines are also the top seeds in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Wheeler is also the second seed in the 100-yard butterfly, and sophomore Collin Keefer is the second seed in the 200-yard IM and the 500-yard freestyle, while senior Max VanDyke is the third seed in the 200-yard freestyle and the fourth seed in the 100-yard freestyle, and sophomore Ryan Bennett is the fourth seed in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.

Sophomore Max Pan is the fifth seed in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Wolverines, while Jerrell Sackett is the sixth seed in the diving competition, and the seventh seed in the 100-yard backstroke, senior Trent Wright is the seventh seed in the 100-yard freestyle, 7th-grader Liam Wright is the seventh seed in the 200-yard IM, and 8th-grader Oscar Williams is the eighth seed in the 500-yard freestyle.

The top 16 in each event, and the top eight relays in each of the three relays advance to Saturday's Section IV, Class C Championships.

BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING
NTL Championships at Sayre, 4:30 p.m.:
Senior Josh McClelland leads the Sayre boys into action at the NTL Championships this afternoon, while senior Kayla Kittle, and juniors Kayla Hughey and Jillian Shay lead the Lady Redskins.

Senior Trent Neville and sophomore Mason Henderson lead the Athens boys into today's fray, while junior Lauren Neville and freshman Brooke Kopatz lead the Lady Wildcats.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Johnson City at Waverly (18-1), 5:30 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Wolverines are coming off their first loss of the season, a 63-60 decision at Ithaca Friday.

Troy (3-18) at Athens (12-9), 6 p.m. JV start: The Lady Wildcats dropped a 47-38 non-league decision at Windsor Monday night, while the Lady Trojans upset arch-rival Canton, 30-25.

Just five days ago, Athens won at Troy, 52-24.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Athens (12-8) at Thomas A. Edison (2-17), 5:30 p.m. JV start:
The Wildcats are coming off an 84-35 loss at Danville Saturday, while the Spartans edged Newark Valley, 54-53, for their second win of the season.

Earlier this season, Athens beat Edison at home, 66-48.

Sayre (5-15) at Cowanesque Valley (8-12), 6 p.m. JV start:
The Redskins are coming off a 55-34 home loss to NEB Monday night, while the Indians lost at home to Millville, 63-26, in a non-league tilt.

In their first meeting, Sayre topped Cowanesque Valley at home in a 63-59 decision.
