NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: CARNRIKE, MOORE LEAD SAYRE PAST COWANESQUE VALLEY, 67-46 (2019-02-13)

WESTFIELD, Pa. - Senior Gage Carnrike and sophomore Zach Moore combined for 39 points and nine 3-pointers to lead Sayre to a 67-46 win over Cowanesque Valley here Wednesday night in NTL Small School Division boys basketball action.

After CV scored the first bucket of the game, but Carnrike and Moore knocked down 3-pointers to give Sayre a 6-2 lead.

The Indians battled back to take an 11-10 lead, but Moore knocked down another 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give the Redskins a 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes.

Carnrike connected on a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the second quarter to make it 16-11.

After a pair of free throws by sophomore Zach Belles, freshman Dom Fabbri scored in transition off a feed from Carnrike to push the lead to 20-11.

Moore knocked down a 3-pointer with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the first half to give Sayre a 23-13 lead.

After a 3-pointer by CV, sophomore Connor Young and Carnrike scored back-to-back buckets make it 27-16 with 1:15 remaining in the half.

After a free throw by Carnrike made it 28-16, CV used an 8-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 30-24 with 7 minutes remaining in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer by Carnrike triggered a 13-2 run that gave Sayre a 43-26 lead with 1 minute remaining.

Fabbri, sophomore Donnie Abrams, and Moore knocked down 3-pointers in a 9-5 spurt to make it 52-31 in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.

After CV trimmed the lead to 18 points, at 54-36, the Redskins used a 7-0 spurt, triggered by a Carnrike 3-pointer, to take its biggest lead of the game, 61-36, midway through the fourth quarter.

Carnrike, who made 4 of his 6 3-point field goal attempts, led Sayre with 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Moore, who was 5 of 11 from behind the 3-point arc, had 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals, Fabbri added nine points.

Young had eight points, four assists, and three rebounds, and one blocked shot for the Redskins, while Belles had four points, four rebonds, three assists, and one block, and freshman Brayden Horton and Fabbri each grabbed four boards.

Sayre, now 6-15, closes out the regular season Thursday at Montgomery.
