WAVERLY "” Senior Wendi Hammond was nearly perfect, tossing a no-hitter to lead Waverly to a 16-0 five-inning win over Dryden here Monday night in IAC Division 3 softball action.

Hammond fanned 15 in the win, including the first nine batters she faced. The only base-runner reached via base on balls to lead off the fourth inning.

It was the Lady Wolverines' second consecutive no-hitter as Hammond and sophomore Hali Jenner combined on a five-inning gem Friday at Watkins Glen.

Waverly has not allowed a run during its 3-0 start this season. Hammond threw a four-hit shutout against Towanda Thursday in its season-opener.

Junior Riley Hall stroked an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to provide the game's first run. After Jenner scored on a wild pitch, senior Jordan Mente capped Waverly's three-run rally with an RBI groundout.

In the second inning, the Lady Wolverines plated two runs with two outs, Jenner knocking home the first with an RBI single, and the second scoring on an outfield error to make it 5-0.

The Lady Wolverines blew the game open in the third inning with a seven-run rally to extend its lead to 12-0. The rally was highlighted by a two-run double by junior Morgan Adams, a two-run single by Hammond, and RBI singles by Hall and sophomore Alyssa Sindoni.

Hall had there hits, scored a pair of runs, and drove in one run to pace Waverly's 14-hit attack, while Adams doubled and singled, and had three RBI, Jenner had two hits, scored three runs, and drove in two runs, and Hammond singled twice, scored three runs, and had two RBI.

Lewis tripled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs for the Lady Wolverines, while Sindoni singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, senior Sydney Meyers singled, scored two runs, and stole two bases, Mente singled and drove in one run, and junior Morgan Lee singled and scored one run.

Waverly returns to action Wednesday in a key Division 3 match-up at Notre Dame.
