IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA BOUNCES BACK WITH 5-1 WIN OVER S-VE (24 PHOTOS) (2019-04-10)

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA CENTER "” Sophomore Kindra Wessels threw a three-hitter, and Tioga bounced back from a lopsided loss at Edison Tuesday with a 5-1 win over S-VE here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Division 2 softball action.

Just 24 hours after the Lady Tigers committed 14 errors in a 21-3 loss at Edison, they committed just three - none of which resulted in a run.

Wessels allowed one earned run, while striking out 11 and walking none in a complete-game seven-inning performance.

Tioga drew first blood with a pair of runs in the home half of the first inning. With one out, sophomore Olivia Ayres slapped an infield single, and moved to second when Wessels was hit by a pitch.

After a double-steal put runners on second and third, Ayres scooted home on a wild pitch with the game's first run. Junior Giovanni Rossi then stroked an RBI single to left field to make it 2-0.

The Lady Panthers cut into the lead in the top of the third when Madi Sousa slammed a triple to the left-center field gap, then scored on a wild pitch.

Tioga got the run right back in the home half of the third. Junior Michaela Webb slapped an infield single, and moved to second on a groundout by Ayres. Weasels then helped her own cause with a line-drive RBI single to left field to make it 3-1.

The Lady Tigers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, freshman Austyn Vance singled, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch.

After junior Alyson Chapman worked a two-out walk, she took off for second, and Vance stole home on the throw to second base to make it 4-1.

Tioga tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Vance to plate freshman Julia Bellis, who walked to lead off the inning.

Vance tripled and singled, scored one run, stole two bases, and drove in a run to lead Tioga at the plate, while Wessels singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Rossi singled and drove in a run, and Webb and Ayres each had one hit and one runs scored.

Rhianna Lawrence was tagged with the loss for S-VE. She allowed five runs on six hits, while striking out eight and walking three in six innings of work.

Sousa tripled and scored a run, while Lawrence and Abby Kellogg each singled to account for S-VE's three hits.

Tioga, now 2-2, returns to action Friday at Moravia, while S-VE, also 2-2, hosts Union Springs.
