TIOGA CENTER "” Senior Pierce Hendershot threw a seven-inning gem to lead Tioga to a 3-1 win over Lansing here Thursday afternoon, avenging an early-season loss in IAC Division 2 baseball action.

Hendershot fanned seven and walked one. He allowed only a fourth-inning single.

The Tiger offense only generated four hits - two apiece by Hendershot and junior Mason Booser - off Lansing ace Garrett Bell, but all four led to runs in each of the first two innings.

Hendershot and Booser led off the home half of the first inning with back-to-back singles, but Hendershot was later wiped off the bases. With two outs, Booser scooted home on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.

Tioga tacked on an unearned run in the second inning when freshman Cobe Whitmore reached on a two-out error, and Hendershot and Booser again stroked back-to-back singles to make it 2-0.

Senior Derrick Barto was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Bell induced a fly ball for the final out escape further damage, and did not allow a hit the remainder of the game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tioga scored a run without the benefit of a hit. Whitmore was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out error off the bat of Gage to make it 3-0.

Hendershot, who retired the first eight batters he faced, was victimized by a pair of Tioga errors in the fifth inning as Lansing plated a run to trim the deficit to 3-1.

Hendershot hit a batter with one out in the sixth inning, but left him stranded on second, then retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Booser singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run. while Hendershot singled twice, and Whitmore scored two runs to account for Tioga's offense.

Bell was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs - all unearned - on four hits, while striking out six and walking two.

Lansing won a 6-1 decision over Tioga in the season opener on March 29.

Tioga, now 4-3, travels to Trumansburg Monday.
