WAVERLY "” Kaden Wheeler stroked an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Waverly to a 4-3 walk-off win over Tioga here Thursday afternoon in IAC junior varsity baseball action.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Cole Williams. Isaac Peterson sparked the rally with a one-out walk, and advanced to third base on a single by Bryce Bailey.

The Wolverines loaded the bases in the home half of the second, but could push across a run. Brennan Traub and Robert Clover led off the frame with singles, and Wheeler was hit by a pitch with two outs, but Bailey, Tioga's starting pitcher, induced a groundout to escape the jam.

Tioga loaded the bases in the top of the third inning on singles by Casey Stoughton and Bailey, sandwiched around a walk to Peterson. The Tigers scored one run to make it 2-0, but a 6-4-3 double play started by Traub at shortstop limited the damage.

Waverly loaded the bases again in the third inning on a walk to Ryan Bennett, a single by Tedesco, and a one-out walk to Traub.

Bailey nearly escaped unscathed again after fielding a comebacker and turning it into a force at home for the second out, but Derek Seymour delivered a two-out, two-RBI double to right field to tie the game at 2-2.

Bailey ended the threat with a strikeout.

Tioga went back on top with a run in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Peterson singled, and Bailey followed with a single that sent Peterson to third base. Cole Williams plated the run with an RBI groundout to make it 3-2.

Waverly tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-out bases-loaded walk. Clover led off the frame with a walk, and moved to third base on a double by Seymour.

Bailey retired the next two batters on a infield pop fly, and a fly ball to shallow right field, but ran into his pitch-count ceiling and was relieved.

Rockwell relieved and walked Nick VanHouten to load the bases, and Bennett to force home the tying run.

Tioga loaded the bases against Waverly reliever Derek Seymour in the top of the seventh on a walk to Stoughton, a single by Bailey, and a walk to Rockwell, but Seymour escaped unscathed with his third strikeout of the inning.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Traub walked, and with two outs Seymour and Damian McConnell both walked to load the bases.

Josh Reis relieved for Tioga, but was greeted by Wheeler's game-winning single up the middle.

Seymour belted a pair of doubles and had two RBI, and Clover singled twice and scored one run to pace Waverly's eight-hit attack.

Traub singled and scored two runs in the win, while Wheeler singled and drove in one run, Tedesco singled and scored one run, VanHouten added a single, and Bennett stole three bases and drove in one run.

Brady Blauvelt started on the mound for the Wolverines, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking two in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Seymour earned the win in relief, allowing one hit 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He fanned four and walked two.

Bailey was 4-for-4 to lead Tioga's eight-hit attack, while Peterson singled, stole two bases, and scored two runs, Stoughton singled and scored one run, Max Dydynski and Gavin Godfrey each added one run, and Williams had two RBI.

Bailey started on the mound for Tioga, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out seven and walking four in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Rockwell was tagged with the loss, allowing one run in one inning of relief. He struck out one and walked five.

Waverly, now 2-2, travels to Candor Monday, while Tioga, also 2-2, is at Edison Monday.
