IAC JV BASEBALL: WAVERLY ROLLS OVER CANDOR (2019-04-23)

CANDOR "” Waverly's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first two innings, racing out to a huge lead after 1 1/2 innings en route to a 33-2 win over Candor here Monday in IAC junior varsity baseball action.

The Wolverines pounded out 21 hits in the the game, and took advantage of 10 walks and 11 errors in the win. They had 40 base runners in the game.

Waverly jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the top of the first inning in a rally highlighted by a twoRBI double by Derek Seymour, an RBI triple by Ryan Bennett, and  and RBI singles b Brennan Traub.

The Wolverines erupted for 17 more runs in the top of the second inning, including the final 16 with two outs. They had 13 hits in the inning, including eight in a row in one stretch.

The offensive onslaught featured a two-run double and a two-run single by Robert Clover, two RBI doubles by Brady Blauvelt, two RBI singles apiece by Nick VanHouten and Traub, and RBI double by Bennett, and RBI singles by Connor Stotler, Gage Tedesco, and Seymour.

Blauvelt had four hits, including two doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI, while Traub stroked three singles, scored three runs, and drove in five runs, and VanHouten had three hits, six runs scored, and two RBI.

Bennett tripled and doubled, scored four runs, and had three RBI for the junior Wolverines, while Clover doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in four runs, Tedesco and Clover each had two hits, three runs scored and two RBI, and Seymour doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs. Kaden Wheeler singled and scored five runs.

VanHouten started on the mound for Waverly, allowing an unearned run in two hitless innings. He struck out three and walked three.

Traub earned the win, allowing an unearned run on one hit, while striking out five and walking two in three innings of relief.

Waverly, now 3-2, hosts S-VE Wednesday.
