IAC SOFTBALL: WAVERLY ROLLS OVER WHITNEY POINT — CLINCHES DIVISION 3 TITLE (2019-04-24)

WHITNEY POINT - State-ranked Waverly clinched the IAC Division 3 softball title in convincing fashion here Wednesday afternoon, scoring at least six runs in every inning en route to a 44-0 five-inning rout of Whitney Point.

The Lady Wolverines, ranked second in Class B, improve to 12-1 overall and 9-0 in IAC play.

Senior Wendi Hammond, who added to her school record with her 10th home run of the season, had three hits, six runs scored, and nine RBI, and junior Riley Hall had four hits, including a grand-slam home run and a double, six runs scored, and seven RBI to pace Waverly's 17-hit attack, which also benefited from 24 base on balls.

Senior Rebecca Peake stroked four singles, scored four runs, and drove in five runs for the Lady Wolverines, while senior Sabrina Pierce doubled, scored four runs, and drove in five runs, junior Morgan Lee singled, scored three runs, and knocked in four runs, and junior Adrianah Clinton singled, scored four runs, and drove in three runs.

Junior Morgan Adams singled, scored twice, and drove in two runs in the win, while sophomore Alyssa Sindoni singled, scored three runs, and knocked in a run, junior Paige Lewis singled and scored two runs, junior Megan Lee scored five runs and had four RBI, sophomore Hali Jenner scored two runs and knocked in one run, and senior Kari Van Allen crossed the plate once.

Hammond struck out all six batters she faced in the pitcher's circle to earn the win. Jenner tossed three innings of one-hit relief, striking out six and walking none.

Waverly will face unbeaten Thomas A. Edison, the top-ranked Class C team in New York State, on Thursday.
