IAC SOFTBALL: STATE-RANKED EDISON KNOCKS OFF TIOGA, 8-2 (21 PHOTOS) (2019-04-29)

TIOGA CENTER "” State-ranked Edison received a strong pitching performance from Bella Willsey, and took advantage of eight Tioga errors to post an 8-2 win here Monday afternoon in IAC Division 2 softball action.

After a scoreless first inning, Bella Willsey reached third base on an error, then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Christina Willsey. Sidney Cooper then reached on an error, and scored on an RBI double by Ryleigh Carson to give the Lady Spartans a 2-0 lead.

Riley Vincent stroked a one-out single and scored on a Tioga error in the third inning to make it 3-0.

The Lady Spartans, ranked No. 1 in Class C, made it 5-0 in the fourth inning when Cooper belted a lead-off double, and Emily Baker and Jodie Burdick ripped back-to-back RBI doubles.

Edison tacked on an unearned run in the fifth inning, and scored two more unearned runs in the sixth inning on a two-RBI single by Reagan Seelye to push the lead to 8-0.

Tioga got on the board in the home half of the sixth inning. Junior Michaela Webb and sophomore Olivia Ayres reached base on one-out singles, and scored on a two-run double by junior Giovanna Rossi.

Bella Willsey allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out 12 and walking none in a seven-inning, complete-game performance.

Selye doubled and singled, and drove in three runs, and Cooper doubled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run to pace Edison at the plate.

Ayres singled twice and scored one run to lead Tioga's six-hit attack, while Rossi doubled and drove in two runs, Webb singled and scored one run, and freshman Julia Bellis and junior Shaina Franks each added a single.

Sophomore Kindra Wessels was tagged with the loss for the Lady Tigers. She allowed eight runs - two earned - on seven hits, while striking out six and walking one in seven innings of work.

Tioga, now 6-3, returns to action Wednesday at S-VE.
