IAC SOFTBALL: ROSSI, WESSELS POWER TIOGA TO 13-2 WIN OVER UNION SPRINGS (2019-05-08)

UNION SPRINGS "” Giovanna Rossi and sophomore Kindra Wessels each banged out three extra-base hits to power Tioga in a 13-2 win over Union Springs here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Division 2 softball action.

Leading 2-1, Tioga took control of the game with six runs in the top of the third inning.

Juniors Allyson Chapman and Michaela Webb worked walks to spark the rally, then sophomore Olivia Ayres slapped an RBI single to make it 3-1, and Wessels ripped a two-RBI double to left field to extend the advantage to 5-1.

Junior Giovanna Rossi followed with an RBI double, then scored on an error to push the lead to 7-1. Freshman Austyn Vance capped the rally with an RBI groundout to make it 8-1.

The Lady Tigers capped the scoring with five runs in the top of the seventh inning in a rally fueled by an RBI double by sophomore Kindra Wessels, and a two-run home run over the center field fence by Rossi.

Rossi belted two doubles and a home run, scored two runs, and had four RBI, and Wessels ripped three doubles, scored four runs, and drove in three runs to pace Tioga's 10-hit attack, while Olivia Ayres singled twice, scored two runs, stole two bases, and drove in two runs.

Webb singled, scored two runs, and stole two bases for the Lady Tigers, while junior Emily Pipher singled and scored one run, and freshman Julia Bellis and Chapman each scored one run.

Wessels earned the win for Tioga in the pitcher's circle. She allowed two runs on seven hits, while striking out six and walking one in seven innings of work.

Tioga, now 10-3, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Lansing.
