COLLEGE SOFTBALL: ATHENS GRAD BENNETT WINS BOTH ENDS OF TWINBILL; TOPS WAVERLY GRAD JENNER IN PITCHER'S DUEL (2024-04-17)

Valley Sport Report
ALFRED — Monday was quite a day for Athens grad Megan Bennett.

Bennett, a senior on the Alfred University softball team, won both ends of a doubleheader, hit double-digit wins in a season for the first time in her career, notched her 300th career strikeout, and got the better of a former high school rival and Valley Storm travel ball teammate.

In the opener, Bennett fanned seven and walked none in a five-inning three-hitter. She threw 64 pitches. Her first strikeout of the game was the 300th of her career.

In the nightcap, Bennett pitched Alfred past Kueka College and Waverly grad Hali Jenner in a tightly-contested 3-1 pitcher’s duel.

Bennett allowed one run on five hits, while striking out five and walking two in five innings. The only run she allowed came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jenner.

Jenner picked up a tough-luck loss, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out three and walking none in five innings.

On Tuesday, Jenner earned a win against SUNY Morrisville to improve to 3-5 on the season. She was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI in Keuka's 16-6 victory.

On the season, Bennett is 11-3 with a 2.00 ERA. She has 75 strikeouts and 10 walks in 80 1/3 innings pitched, and has allowed 79 hits.

For her career, Bennett is 33-19 with a 2.66 ERA, and has 311 strikeouts in 310 2/3 innings.
