IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NOTRE DAME HOLDS OFF TIOGA, 46-40 (2019-01-04)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER - Notre Dame built an eight-point lead after three quarters, and made enough free throws down the stretch to pull out a 46-40 win over Tioga here Friday night in IAC non-divisional girls basketball action.
Sophomore Eve Wood and Olivia Ayres each canned 3-pointers for Tioga in the first quarter, but Notre Dame was equal to the task and the game was tied 10-10 after the first eight minutes.
Khalil Rivera scored four points in the second quarter, and Taylor VanDine and Maddie Watts each knocked down 3-pointers to help the Lady Crusaders to a 22-20 lead at the halftime intermission.
Five different Notre Dame players found the scoring column in the third quarter in a 12-6 run that extended the lead to 34-26.
Ayres knocked down her fourth 3-pointer of the game and scored five points in the fourth quarter, but Notre Dame, which only had one field goal in he stanza, made 10 of 16 free-throw attempts to seal the win. Watts was 7-for-10 from the line, and Rivera made 3 of 6.
Ayres led Tioga with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Wood had 11 points and four rebounds, and junior Chloe Bellis had seven points, five rebounds, four steals, three assists, and three blocked shots.
Senior Rebekah Richter had four points, five rebounds, four assists, and one blocked shot for the Lady Tigers, and junior Giovanna Rossi had four points, a team-high 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Rivera led Notre Dame with 16 points and Watts added 14.
Tioga, now 2-8, returns to action Tuesday at Southern Cayuga.
