It’s "All-Region" week for the 2024 spring sports season, which will be followed by our year-end awards.

The Sports Reports, which covers 24 school districts in four counties — Chemung and Tioga counties in N.Y., and Tioga and Bradford counties in Pa. — and Corning will honor the top student-athletes in each sport, the top newcomers and athletes — both male and female — of the spring sports season, and the top coaches from our coverage areas.

"All-Region" week begins Friday and stretches through the following Wednesday. The 2023-24 All-Region year-end awards will be doled out July 8-9.

The schedule is as follows:

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

IT'S ALL-VALLEY WEEK FOR SPRING '24 (2024-06-23)

THE VALLEY — The 2023-24 high school sports season has come to an end, and over the next two weeks, Valley Sports Report will put the finishing touches on it with "All-Valley" honors for the 2024 spring season, as well as our year-end awards.

"All-Valley Week," which honors the top athletes, newcomers, and coaches in each sport, as well as "Crystal Ball" prognostications for the 2025 spring seasons, begins Tuesday and wraps up Sunday.

Beginning June 21, VSR will put a bow on the entire school year with its year-end awards, culminating Sunday, June 23 with "The Final Word on 2023-24."

This spring, Waverly senior Ralph Johnson added his name to more records than Ye, and did it with none of the crazy.

Johnson won two gold medals in the 200-meter dash —  the NYSPHSAA and Federation —  while going undefeated, and lowering the school record to 10.65 seconds, in the 100 before false starting at States. He and his 4x100 relay teammates won NYSPHSAA gold, as well. ...more

The Sports Reports’ overall “Track & Field Athlete of the Year” is Corning’s Sarah Lawson. The Syracuse-bound senior medaled in the 1,500-meter run, placing third, and 3,000-meter run, finishing fourth, at the New York State Championships this year. ...more

Owego had a historical season, posting a 12-0 regular season record and going 16-1 overall on the way to a berth in the NYSPHSAA Division 2 flag football semifinals.

Key to the River Hawks’ success was quarterback Kylie Grippen -- the 2024 “Flag Football Player of the Year.” The sophomore slinger completed 300 of her 395 pass attempts (76 percent) for 3,336 yards and 62 touchdowns with 15 interceptions, and also converted 41 extra point throws. ...more

Like a lot of sports going on at Corning, the boys’ tennis team excelled, posting a 12-0 record on the season, including a STAC West Championship, and the program’s first-ever overall STAC Championship.

Leading the way is The Sports Reports’ 2023-24 “Boys Tennis Player of the Year,” Corning’s Denis Khrapko. The senior went 6-2 on the year at first singles, was second at the Section IV Tournament, and made it to the Section IV State Qualifier. ...more
