WAVERLY - Waverly earned a pair of wins - over Lansing and S-VE - recently to improve to 7-3 on the season in IAC junior varsity girls basketball action.

Waverly 40, Lansing 14

Waverly raced out to a big halftime lead and cruised to a 40-14 win over Lansing Tuesday evening.

Olivia Nittinger scored eight points in the first quarter to fuel an 11-4 run, then Alyssa Sindoni scored six points in a 10-0 second quarter blitz to give the junior Wolverines a 21-4 lead at the half.

Waverly had seven different players find the scoring column in the second half as they locked down the win.

Nittinger led Waverly with 12 points, while Sindoni scored eight points, Peyton Shaw and Paige Robinson added six points apiece, and Lourden Benjamin chipped in with five points.

Waverly 42, S-VE 37

At Spencer, Waverly jumped out to an early lead, maintained it throughout the game, and made enough free throws down the stretch to pull out a 42-37 decision over S-VE Friday.

Olivia Nittinger knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and Alyssa Sindoni canned a 3-pointer and scored five points to help Waverly to a 12-6 lead after the first eight minutes.

Waverly stretched it lead to 20-13 at the half, despite making just 2 of 6 free-throw attempts in the second quarter.

S-VE trimmed the deficit to four points, at 29-25, entering the fourth quarter, but Waverly scored a trio of big buckets early in the final eight minutes, then made 7 of 12 events to seal the victory.

Nittinger and Sindoni scored 11 points apiece to lead Waverly, while Hali Jenner had six points, Peyton Shaw added five points, and Aubrey Ennis and Lourden Benjamin chipped in with four points apiece.
