IAC BOYS BOWLING: TIOGA WINS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS, WAVERLY FINISHES FIFTH (2019-02-02)

WAVERLY - Senior Jason Sherman, and sophomore Kolton Pond led Tioga to the team title of the IAC boys bowling championships here Saturday afternoon at the Valley Bowling Center, while Waverly finished fifth - just 24 pins out of second place.

The Tigers rolled a three-game set of 2,901 pins, while Union Springs / Port Byron was second with 2,810, Newark Valley was third with 2,796, Watkins Glen was fourth with 2,791, and Waverly was fifth with 2,786.

Newark Valley's Alex Umiker won the individual honors with a 673 series on games of 248, 198, and 227, while Waverly junior Derrick Canfield was second with a 669 on games of 238, 208, and 223, Jason Sherman finished third with a 647 on games of 223, 209, and 215, and Waverly 8th-grader Zach Vanderpool was fourth with a 637 series on games of 243, 195, and 199.

Pond finished 10th with a 600 series on games of 217, 164, and 219, while freshman Dylan Slater was 12th with a 590 series, including a 247 in the first game, and senior Eric Sherman was 19th with a 554.

Senior Mason Trollman shot a 510 for the Tigers, while senior A.J. Middendorf added a 508, and freshman Rocco Fariello tacked on a 408.

Eighth-grader Ashton Pritchard rolled a 531 for the Wolverines, while sophomore Matt Mauersberg shot a 526, sophomore Richard Stevens had a 423, 7th-grader Carter Hayes added a 397, and freshman Cody Blackwell tacked on a 392.

Tioga and Waverly return to action next weekend at their respective Section IV Class Championships.
