NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: RANDALL SPARKS SAYRE'S DIVISION-CLINCHING WIN OVER NEB (12 PHOTOS) (2019-02-08)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - Sophomore Gabbi Randall gave Sayre a jolt of energy and sparked a third-quarter blitz that put the Lady Redskins in firm control in a division-clinching 50-37 win over NEB here Friday night in NTL Small School girls basketball action.
"It was one of those storybook finishes for sure," said Sayre coach Eileen Sparduti. "Senior Night, Parents' Night, and an outright claim to the (Small School) title."
Junior Emily Sutryk canned a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven points in the first half, while seniors Camry Lane and Stephanie Klovekorn added six points apiece to help the Lady Redskins to a 22-15 halftime lead.
Randall pumped in 10 points in the third quarter, and Sutryk added two more 3-pointers as Sayre extended its lead to 42-28 entering the final eight minutes.
"Our seniors anchored our efforts, but what a breakout night for our underclassmen," said Sparduti.
"Emily Sutryk was a steady scoring contributor across all four quarters, and sophomore Gabbi Randall had her coming out party with her first double-double," noted Sparduti. "Hopefully the first of many.
"We also needed our bench to step up when we needed a blow and when we were dealing with some foul trouble," added Sparduti. "Junior, Madi Wilson and sophomore Courtney Sindoni performed well in those roles."
Sutryk scored six points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Redskins held off any thoughts of an NEB comeback.
Sutryk led Sayre with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists, while Randall had 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, three assists, and one blocked shot, Lane added 11 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and three blocked shots, and Klovekorn chipped in with six points, eight rebonds and one blocked shot in the win.
Lindsey Moore led NEB with 10 points and Lauryn Jones added eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Sayre wraps up the regular season at 17-5, and now awaits word on its opening-round opponent in next week's NTL Showdown.
"We are looking forward to a small break before we head back to the gym," said Sparduti. "We'll watch how games play out, so we can prepare for our Showdown opponent on Thursday."
