NTL SOFTBALL: YOUNG SAYRE TEAM LOOKS FOR IMPROVEMENT IN 2019 (2019-04-01)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE "” The rebuilding efforts continue for the Sayre softball program, and the Lady Redskins will look to improve on last year's 2-16 record with a young squad in 2019.

"We have a great group of girls returning, with only two seniors," said coach Rich Decatur. "So, we are still young and learning.

"We are still learning and working hard to make the Sayre softball program a success," added Decatur.

Sayre returns pitchers Allyssa Murrelle and Sara Ciavardini, middle infielder Lexi Post, outfielders Jillian Shay, Emily Sutryk, Maddie LaManna, and Allah Bird, third baseman Brelin VanDuzer, and second baseman Erika Wells.

The Lady Redskins also have a large group of newcomers, including Haily McCaig (catcher), Madeleine Dutra (outfield), Savannah Harbst, Gianna Quattrini, Deija Fox, Alexa McCutcheon, Carlee McCutcheon, Alexis Shepard, and Alexis Wiles.

"They all bring a talent to the team that will help us be successful," Decatur said.

Decatur, in his second season at Sayre, is hoping the return of Murrelle and Ciavardini in the pitcher's circle will be a strength for the Lady Redskins.

"The pitchers have worked hard all summer and winter to improve their game," he said. "They have continued this through the start of spring and this hard work should help to make them have a successful year this year."

Sayre opens its 2019 campaign Tuesday at Troy.
