IAC SOFTBALL: HALL POWERS WAVERLY IN 8-1 WIN OVER NOTRE DAME (2019-04-03)

Valley Sports Report
SOUTHPORT "" Junior Riley Hall drove in six runs in support of another strong pitching performance from senior Wendi Hammond in Waverly's 8-1 win over Division 3 rival Notre Dame here Wednesday afternoon in IAC softball action.

The Lady Wolverines scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.

Hammond reached second base on an outfield error to lead off the game, and scored on a one-out RBI single by Hall.

In the second inning, junior Paige Lewis legged out a lead-off double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Alyssa Sindoni, and scored on a two-out error to make it 2-0.

Hall led off the third inning with a solo home run over the center-field fence to push the lead to 3-0.

In the fourth inning, Hammond worked a one-out walk, and moved to third base on a double by sophomore Hali Jenner. Hall plated both runners with a two-run single up the middle to make it 5-0.

Hammond retired the first 12 batters she faced, before Jordyn Fargo led off the home half of the fifth inning with an infield single. After moving to second base on a sacrifice bunt, Fargo scored on a two-out error to trim the deficit to 5-1.

The Lady Wolverines put the game away with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior Sydney Meyers led off with a single, and moved to second on a walk to Hammond.

After an infield single by Jenner loaded the bases, Hall ripped a two-run double to left field to make it 7-1. With two outs, Jenner scooted home on a passed ball to provide the final margin.

Hammond allowed an unearned run on two hits, while striking out 15 and walking none in a complete-game seven-inning effort.

Hall was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, one run scored, two stolen bases, and six RBI to pace Waverly's nine-hit attack, while Jenner doubled and singled and scored two runs, and Lewis doubled and singled and scored one run. Meyers singled and scored a run in the win.

Waverly, now 4-0, returns to action Friday at Newark Valley.
