LEWISBURG — Athens freshman Breana Gambrell recorded the best jump of her young college career Sunday to win the long jump at the Outdoor Bison Classic here at Bucknell University.
Gambrell, a freshman on the Penn State women's track & field team, won the long jump with a personal-best effort of 20-feet, 3 3/4-inches — just 2 1/2 inches shy of the Bucknell facility record.
Gambrell opened the competition with a jump of 19-feet, 8-inches in her first jump, which would have been good enough for the win. She improved her mark with her winning effort on the sixth and final attempt.
Lock Haven freshman Karina Long was second at 18-feet, 5 3/4-inches, and Slippery Rock sophomore Reagan Hess was third at 18-feet, 4 1/2-inches.
Penn State returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Challenge.
