IAC JV BASEBALL: WAVERLY RIDES BIG INNING TO 15-1 WIN OVER CANDOR (2019-05-09)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "" Waverly erupted for 12 run-in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow open a close game en route to a 15-1 win over Candor here Wednesday afternoon in IAC junior varsity baseball action.
Leading 3-1, Waverly sent 16 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. The rally featured a three-run double by Gage Tedesco, and RBI singled by Kaden Wheeler, Nick VanHouten, Brennan Traub, and Brady Blauvelt.
Wheeler was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, three stolen bases, and one RBI, and Tedesco doubled and singled, scored three runs scored and had three RBI to pace Waverly's 13-hit attack, while VanHouten singled twice, scored two runs, stole three bases, and drove in two runs, and Traub singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in one run.
Ryan Bennett singled, scored two runs, and stole three bases for the Wolverines, while Blauvelt singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Derek Seymour singled, scored two runs, stole two bases, and drove in one run, and Thomas Hand added a single.
Traub earned the win, finishing off the game with four innings of two-hit scoreless relief, striking out four and walking two.
VanHouten also pitched two innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits, while striking out two and walking one. Blauvelt started, and allowed one unearned run on one hit, while striking out two and walking one.
Waverly, now 7-4, returns to action Friday at S-VE.
