WAVERLY — Waverly fell behind early, but scored in every inning and pounded out 25 hits to pull away in a 22-9 win over S-VE here Wednesday afternoon in IAC junior varsity softball action.

Waverly led 6-0 after 1 1/2 innings, but S-VE scored five runs in the home half of the second, and four more in the third inning to take a 9-8 lead.

Bella Romano’s RBI single in the top of the fourth inning pulled Waverly into a 9-9 tie, then Taylor Hall’s two-run single in the top of the fifth gave the Lady Wolverines the lead for good at 11-9. Romano added another RBI single, and Waverly tacked on a run on an S-VE error to take a 13-9 lead.

Waverly put the game away with seven runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Jadyn Babcock and Kennedy Herriman led off the inning with singles, and both scored on a three-run home run to center field by Aubrey Ennis to make it 16-9. Romano add an RBI single later in the inning, and Rachel Smith stroked a two-run single to extend the lead to 19-9.

Ennis had three hits, including a home run, four runs scored, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Romano stroked three singles, scored one run, and had three RBI, Herriman had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, and Babcock had three hits, two stolen bases, and scored three runs.

Taylor Hall was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and two RBI for the Lady Wolverines, while Smith had three hits, scored one run and drove in three runs, Megan Ward doubled and singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Lourden Benjamin singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Michaela Lauper doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in one run.

Erin Lindquist singled and scored four runs in the win, and Emilee Little scored twice and drove in one run.

Lauper earned the win in relief, allowing four runs — none earned — on five hits, while striking out three and walking none in five innings. Ward started, allowing five runs — four earned — on three hits, while striking out four and walking two in two innings.

Waverly, now 5-4, hosts Edison Thursday.
