NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON HOLDS OFF SAYRE IN 6-3 WIN (2019-05-09)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - Canton scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and held off a valiant Sayre squad in a 6-3 win here Thursday afternoon in NTL Small School softball action at Riverfront Park.
Trailing 4-0, freshman Holly McCaig led off the home half of the first with a single, and later scored on a groundball off the bat of junior Jillian Shay.
Canton answered with a run in the top of the second to push its lead back to four runs, at 5-1.
The Lady Redskins took advantage of four walks - the fourth to McCaig to force home a run - to trim the deficit to 5-2.
The Lady Warriors scored again in the top of the third to make it 6-2.
McCaig rapped an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning to finish off the scoring.
McCaig had three hits, including a double, and scored one run to pace Sayre at the plate, while juniors Lexi Post and Emily Sutryk, and freshman Savanna Harbst each singled, and sophomores Sara Ciavardini and Allyssa Murrelle each scored one run.
Ciavardini was tagged with the loss, striking out two in seven innings.
Sayre, now 0-14, hosts NEB Friday.
