NTL SOFTBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY ROLLS TO 13-2 WIN OVER SAYRE (2019-05-15)

Valley Sports Report
WESTFIELD, Pa. - Sayre drew first blood, but Cowanesque Valley scored early and often en route to a 13-2 win here Wednesday afternoon in NTL Small School Division softball action.

Freshman Hailey McCaig singled and scored on a two-out RBI single by Emily Sutryk to give Sayre a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

CV countered with run in the home half to tie the game, then scored three runs in the second inning, and two more in each of the next three innings to build a 10-1 lead after five innings.

Sayre got on the board again in the sixth inning on a pair of two-out hits - a single b junior Madeline Dutra and an RBI triple by sophomore Allyssa Murrelle.

The Lady Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the 10-run "mercy" rule.

Sayre left runners on base in all seven innings, and had hits in six of the seven innings.

Dutra stroked three singles and scored one run to lead the Sayre offense, while Murrelle ripped a triple and drove in one run, Sutryk singled and drove in one run, junior Lexi Post singled and scored one run, and McCaig added a single.

Sayre, now 1-16, travels to Blue Ridge Thursday for a non-league tilt, then wraps up its 2019 campaign Saturday afternoon when it hosts NEB.
