WAVERLY - Four Waverly pitchers combined to pitch a seven-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over Newark Valley here Wednesday in IAC junior varsity baseball action.

The Wolverines scored single runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings, then blow the game open with five runs in the fifth inning.

Derek Seymour stared for Waverly, allowing two hits in three innings, while striking out three and walking one.

Nick VanHouten earned the win, allowing three hits in two innings of relief, while striking four and walking two.

Brady Blauvelt struck out one and walked one in a hitless inning of relief, and Brennan Traub closed out the game, allowing two hits and striking out two in one inning.

Thomas Hand was 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI to lead Waverly's 12-hit attack, while Kaden Wheeler and Traub each had two hits, two stolen bases, one run scored, and one RBI, and Blauvelt had two hits, one run scored, and one run driven in.

Gage Tedesco singled, scored one run, and drove in one run for the Wolverines, while Robert Clover and VanHouten each singled and scored one run, and Ryan Bennett scored two runs.

Austin Weeks stroked three singles, and Jake Armstrong and Dawson Moncalleri each doubled and singled to account for Newark Valley's seven hits.

Waverly, now 8-4, returns to action Friday at O-M / Watkins Glen.
