ON TAP TODAY: SECTION IV GIRLS GOLF, TRACK & FIELD TAKE CENTER STAGE (2019-05-21)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY "” With the regular season over on the diamonds, every sport is now in postseason mode with Valley athletes setting their sights on States. Today's slate of action features Section IV girls golf and track & field action.

GIRLS GOLF
Section IV Championships, 9 a.m. @ Soaring Eagles:
The three-time defending Section IV champ Lady Wolverines look to defend their title today, and senior Alex Tomasso seeks her sixth trip to the New York State Championships.

Waverly has sent five golfers to States in each of the last two years, and finished third at States last year in the first-ever New York State team tournament.

The main obstacle for Waverly will likely be Horseheads, which won 12 Section IV titles in a row before the Lady Wolverines unseated them in 2016.

Defending New York State and Section IV champion Bailey Shoemaker, an 8th-grader at Unadilla Valley, is the player to beat in the chase for individual gold.

TRACK & FIELD
Section IV, Class B Championships, 4 p.m. @ Vestal:
The Wolverines are back in action in their final tune-up before next week's State Qualifier.

Fresh off his stadium record of 14-feet, 9-inches in the pole vault at the IAC Championships, junior Isaac Chandler continues his chase of Eric Hughes' school record of 15-feet, 3-inches, and a return trip to States.

Juniors Cora Smith, Sheridan Talada, and Melina Ortiz, as well as seniors Stephanie Hyland and Dylan Ward, and sophomore Collin Wright will look to make a trip to the top steps of the podium for Class B hardware.
