ATHENS "” Athens completed an unbeaten run through the bracket with an 8-3 win over Towanda in the championship game of the District 15 Minors Division Little League playoffs here Thursday night at the Athens Little League Field.

Athens, playing as the visiting team, took a quick 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Sam Cheresnowsky reached on a one-out error, and advanced to third base on a single by Connor Davidson.

Eli Hicks plated the game's first run with an RBI groundout.

Athens starter Duncan Thetga did not allow a hit through the first three inning to preserve the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, Cartyr Cockcroft reached second base on a throwing error, and moved to third base on consecutive walks to Graham Wanck and Zach Fisher.

Kamdyn Wheeler and Cheresnowsky stroked back-to-back RBI singles to give Athens a 3-0 lead, and Davidson knocked in a run with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0.

After a walk to Hicks re-loaded the bases, Thetga drove in a run with an RBI single to cap the rally, and push the lead to 5-0.

Athens tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning on a Lucas Schultz RBI groundout out.

Athens extended its lead to 8-0 in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Wanck to force home a run, and Schultz capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Towanda scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Hicks relieved Thetga with two outs and, after allowing an RBI single, recorded a strikeout to end the game.

Athens also beat Towanda, 7-1, in the final game of pool play.

Thetga allowed three runs - all unearned - on three hits, while striking out five and walking one in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Wheeler stroked two singles, scored one run, and drove in one run, while Cockcroft singled twice and scored one run, and Thetga singled twice and drove in one run to pace Athens at the plate.

Cheresnowsky and Hicks singled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Schultz singled and drove in two runs, Davidson singled and knocked in one run, and Brycen Wood singled and scored one run. Wanck scored one run and drove in one run for Athens, and Fisher and Alex McQuay each scored one run.
