IAC CROSS COUNTRY: NEW COACH HAS LOFTY EXPECTATIONS FOR WOLVERINES IN 2019 (2019-09-07)

WAVERLY "” Waverly returns a pair of state qualifiers and first-year head coach Nate Culver believes they could have company this year.

"(Junior) Collin Wright and (senior) Sheridan Talada are both returning cross-country state competitors," said Culver.  "As a team, I am expecting some of our returners to make an honest push to advance as well."

On the boys side, the Wolverines return seniors Brandon Bubniak and Francis Chandler, junior Jayden Rose, and sophomores Nate Ackley, Kaden Wheeler, Matt Atanasoff, Liam Traub, Joe Fritzen, and Sam VanDyke.

The boys also have three newcomers in sophomore Hunter Elston and Gavin Schillmoeller,and freshman Jarrell Sackett.

The Lady Wolverines return seniors Kaylee Akins, Rachel Ovedovitz, Paige Ackley, Morgan Lee, and Elizabeth Fritzen, and sophomore Olivia Nittinger.

New to the girls team are junior Hali Jenner and sophomore Aubrey Akins.

Culver believes his team will be very competitive in the IAC and in Section IV this season.

"Both the boys and girls teams are stacked with experienced returners and have put in a tremendous amount of work this summer," said Culver. "I couldn't be more proud of their collective motivation for the season

"We will be attending a majority of high quality invitationals, which will test the team, but will prepare them for the excellent completion within the league," added Culver.

Waverly opens the 2019 campaign today at the Rotary Invitational in Oneonta.
