Valley Sports ReportSAYRE "" Jake Cochran completed his hat trick with 2:51 remaining in overtime to lift Galeton to a 3-2 win over Sayre here Saturday in NTL boys soccer action at the Lockhart Street Bowl.
"We played with all heart today," said first-year Sayre coach Greg Hughey. "We went with a different line-up that started to work, but we were getting use to new spots.
"We had some unlucky bounces of the ball," he noted. "We missed some break away goals, but overall our effort was outstanding."
"I'm proud of my team's efforts. Today's game was very encouraging," added Hughey, whose Redskins lost to Galeton 5-1 last Saturday in the opening round of the Galeton Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, Cochran broke the ice about four minutes after the halftime intermission.
Sayre junior Cody VanBenthuysen tied the game with an unassisted goal with 25:30 remaining in regulation, but Cochran answered with his second goal 3 1/2 minutes later to give Galeton a 2-1 lead.
VanBenthuysen tied the game again with another unassisted goal with 11:26 remaining in regulation.
Galeton outshot Sayre 14-7, and had a 14-5 edge in corner kicks.
Sayre, now 0-3-1, hosts Towanda Monday.
