YOUTH FOOTBALL: WAVERLY 'C' TEAM WINS; 'A,' 'B' TEAMS FALL AT WELLSBORO (2019-09-10)

 WELLSBORO "” The Waverly "C" team rolled to a big win over Wellsboro, while the "A" team lost a heartbreaker, and the "B" team was shutout here Sunday in the opening weekend of Northern Tier Youth Football League action.

"A" Game (5th- & 6th-grade)
Wellsboro 26, Waverly 25

Wellsboro stopped Waverly's extra-point in the final minute to preserve a 26-25 win Sunday in the "A" game.

Maxwell Mascho scored on TD runs of 9 and 10 yards and also added the extra point in the first quarter to give Wellsboro a 13-0 lead.

Brance Vanalstine put Waverly on the board with a 62 yard TD run to start the second quarter, but Mascho added another TD run and extra point to give Wellsboro a 20-6 lead at the half.

Waverly QB Ben Shaw scored on a 2-yard run at the start of the third quarter to make the score 20-12, then Vanalstine, who recovered a Wellsboro fumble to give Waverly the ball, scored on a 64-yard run and added the extra point to trim the deficit to 20-19.

Wellsboro pushed its lead 26-19 on a 17-yard TD pass from  Marek Mascho to Luke Rothermel

With less than a minute left in the game, Bryce Laforest ripped off a 22-yard TD run to pull Waverly within one point, at 26-25. Wellsboro stopped the extra point to preserve the win.

Vanalstine finished the game with 176 yards rushing and Laforest added 80 yards. Shaw was 6-for-7 passing for 59 yards.

The Waverly defense was led by Austin Burns, David Macumber, and Kaden McCarthy.

"B" Game (3rd- & 4th-grade)
Wellsboro 19, Waverly 0

Maddon Mascho scored all three touchdowns for Wellsboro in a 19-0 win over Waverly in the "B" game.

 Brycen Fiske had 43 yards rushing and Chase Sinsabaugh had three receptions for 40 yards to lead Waverly on offense.

The Waverly defense was led by Jaxson Porter,  Griffin Walter, and Jeremy Cleveland. Axel Murray also had a fumble recovery.

"C" Game (1st- & 2nd-grade)
Waverly 31, Wellsboro 7

Brayden Bowman scored four TDs to lead Waverly to a 31-7 win in the "C" game.

Bowman ripped off a 65-yard TD run on the first play of the game, and Eli Keeney added the extra point to give Waverly a 7-0 lead.

After Wellsboro scored to tie the game at 7-7, Bowman added TD runs of 65 and 62 runs to give Waverly a 19-7 lead after the first quarter.

Triton Floyd scored on a 35-yard TD run in the second quarter to give the Wolverines a 25-7 lead at the half.

Bowman tacked on a 58-yard TD run in the third quarter to end the scoring.

The Waverly defense was led by Bowman, Grant Spiegel, and Keeney.

FLAG GAME (Kindergarten)
Waverly and Wellsboro played to a tie. Zi'Ran Thomas and Dallas Harbst scored the Waverly touchdowns.
