LIBERTY "” Second-year Athens volleyball coach Heather Hanson is trying to build a program in hopes of being the team of the future in the NLT. Wednesday night, the Lady Wildcats were swept here by current powerhouse North Penn-Liberty.

NP-L won by scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-5.

"Tonight was a fantastic reality check for us," said Hanson. "NPL is an exceptional team and it was great for the girls to play against them, and experience where we need to be if we want to go to the next level.

"For me as a coach it was a great reality check on areas I need to work on, so we are ready for the games ahead," she added.

Ali Koval led NP-L with 15 service points and 13 digs, while Charisma Grega registered 15 kills, 13 digs, and seven points, Maddison Minyo had 12 kills and six digs, and JoAnne McNamara doled out 18 assists.

Junior Taylor Field led Athens with 15 digs, while senior Haley Barry had 10 digs, junior Leah Liechty had three kills, one block, and two digs, and senior Cassidy Stackpole added nine digs and one block.

Freshman Jenny Ryan added seven digs, three blocks, and two kills for the Lady Wildcats, while junior Kylie Jayne had two digs, two kills, and two blocks, and junior Kayleigh Miller chipped in with six assists and three digs.

Athens, now 4-1, hosts Wellsboro Saturday afternoon.
