Valley Sports Report
CANDOR — Junior Gabby Picco and freshman Kennedy Westbrook each scored two goals and doled out three assists, and senior Sadie VanAllen also scored twice to lead Waverly to an 8-0 win over SVEC here Monday afternoon in IAC South Large School Division girls soccer action.

“I was very impressed with how well the girls passed today,” said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. “Our movement off the ball was impressive.

“Our forwards — Sadie and Lea VanAllen, along with Kennedy Westbrook — made some great runs and had impressive passing in and around the 18,” noted Hogan. “I can't count how many opportunities Gabby Picco set up, and Kennedy is such a ball of energy — she is constantly making runs and wants the ball.”

Sadie VanAllen, off a feed from Picco, scored 99 seconds into the game to give the Lady Wolverines a quick 1-0 lead.

SVEC’s Madelynn Pasto knotted the score at 1-1 with 23:58 remaining in the first half, but Picco — off an assist from Westbrook — scored about 7 1/2minutes later to take the lead for good at 2-1.

Westbrook made it 3-1 with a header off a corner kick by Picco with 8:46 remaining in the half, and Sadie VanAllen capped the first-half scoring, off an assist from Westbrook, about 6 1/2 minutes later extending the lead to 4-1.

Picco, off an assist from Sadie VanAllen, scored 52 seconds into the second half to make it 5-1.

Westbrook, off a feed from Picco, made it 6-1 with 28:49 left in the contest, and Kylie Payne’s first career goal about 6 1/2 minutes later pushed the Lady Wolverine advantage to 7-1.

Eighth-grader Lea VanAllen, off an assist from Westbrook, capped the scoring in the final 10 minutes.

“I was happy to see more girls getting involved in the play,” said Hogan. “This was another game where multiple players scored and assisted.

“It's also nice to see Alyvia Daddona and Hayleigh Moran improve consistently,” she added.

Waverly outshot SVEC 34-2, and had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Kaitlyn Clark recorded three saves in net for Waverly.

Waverly, now 7-1, returns to action Monday when it hosts Watkins Glen.
