WAVERLY — The Waverly ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams earned wins over Canton here Sunday in Northern Tier Youth Football League action at Memorial Stadium on a day when the Waverly Recreation Department retired the uniform of Jagger Roberts-Wright, who lost his life in an ATV accident this summer.

The number 49 that Jagger wore was retired and the “Sportsman of the Year Aeard” will be awarded in his name to a player from the “B” team every year. The B team coaches will select the player who best describes the meaning of sportsmanship, which Jagger displayed both in football and baseball.

The player who is selected is someone who has encouraged everyone, by a clap or high-five, a cheer or by just shaking hands and has been respectful to teammates, opposition, coaches, officials, and parents during the season.
