WAVERLY "” The Waverly "˜A' and "˜B' teams earned wins over Canton here Sunday in Northern Tier Youth Football League action at Memorial Stadium on a day when the Waverly Recreation Department retired the uniform of Jagger Roberts-Wright, who lost his life in an ATV accident this summer.
 
The number 49 that Jagger wore was retired and the "Sportsman of the Year Aeard" will be awarded in his name to a player from the "B" team every year. The B team coaches will select the player who best describes the meaning of sportsmanship, which Jagger displayed both in football and baseball.

The player who is selected is someone who has encouraged everyone, by a clap or high-five, a cheer or by just shaking hands and has been respectful to teammates,opposition, coaches, officials, and parents during the season.

Jagger's parents are Brittany Roberts and Brandon Wright .

"A" game (5th- & 6th-grade)  
Waverly  20, Canton 0  

After a scoreless first half, Waverly scored three second-half TDs to pull out a 20-0 win over Canton in the "A" game.

Brance Vanalstine scored on a 44-yard TD run to start the third quarter, and Bryce Laforest added the extra point to give Waverly the 7-0 lead.

Vanalstine also scored on the first play of the 4th quarter on a 21-yard run to make it 13-0.

Austin Burns recovered a fumble on the next play, and Laforest added to the lead on the next play - a 22-yard TD run. Carter Davies added the extra point to close out the scoring.

The Waverly defense was led by Ben Shaw, Aiden Strope, and Burns. Rylan Yeakel and Tristan Campbell also had fumble recoveries.

"B" Game (3rd- & 4th-grade)  
Waverly 25 Canton 0 .  

Jaxson Porter scored a pair of TDs to help Waverly to a 25-0 win in the "B" game.

Porter opened the scoring with a 5-yard TD run, and Griffin Walter scored on a 2-yard run to give Waverly a 12-0 lead at the half.

Porter added to the lead when he scooped up a fumble and returned it 38 yards for a score. Brycen Fiske tacked on the extra point to push the lead to 19-0.

Avery Bowman put the finishing touches on Waverly's scoring with a 58-yard TD run late in the third quarter.

Jeremy Cleveland, Connor Bentley, and Axel Murray led the Waverly defense.

"C" Game (1st- & 2nd-grade)  
Canton 20, Waverly 13, OT  

Canton scored a TD in overtime to pull out a 20-13 win over Waverly in the "C" game.

Brooks Wesneski scored on a 60-yard TD run, and Colby Colton added the extra point to give Canton a 7-0 lead.

Brayden Bowman busted loose on a 70-yard TD run in the second quarter to trim the deficit it 7-6 at the half.

Wesneski scored on a 50-yard TD run to start the third quarter to make it 13-6.

Eli Keeney plowed in from 2 yards out, and Brayden Bowman added the extra point to tie the score at 13-13.

In overtime, Oliver Sechrist scored on a 13-yard TD run, and Wesneski added the extra point to give Canton a 20-13 lead.

On Waverly's next possession, Bowman was stopped inches from the goal line on the last play to end the game.

Keeney, Bowman, and Grant Spiegel led the Waverly defense.

FLAG GAME: Canton and Waverly ended in a tie score. Dallas Harbst, Zi'Ran Thomas, and Blake Bentley scored TDs for Waverly.
