WAVERLY — Waverly scored nine goals in the first half — seven coming in the final 19 minutes before the intermission, including junior Gabby Picco’s 50th career goal — en route to a 10-0 win over Watkins Glen here in IAC girls soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

Picco netted a hat trick and dished out two assists in the win, while senior Sadie VanAllen, freshman Kennedy Westbrook and 8th-grader Lea VanAllen each scored two goals — all in the first half.

“This was another great game for us,” said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. “Our shooting was much improved this game and our passing continues to be impressive.

“We were able to utilize all players on the field and continue to work on our attack.

“Gabby Picco is now the second player on this team who has accomplished 50 career goals,” added Hogan in reference to senior Melina Ortiz reaching the milestone on 9/11 against O-M.

Freshman Kennedy Westbrook scored an unassisted goal three minutes into the game, and 8th-grader Lea VanAllen scored an unassisted goal three minutes later to make it 2-0.

Westbrook scored another unassisted goal in the 21st minute, and Picco, off a feed from Sadie VanAllen, scored three minutes later to make it 4-0.

Just one minute later, Lea VanAllen tallied an unassisted goal, then Sadie VanAllen, off an assist from Picco scored two minutes later to extend the lead to 6-0.

Picco scored her milestone goal with 9 minutes remaining in the first half to make it 7-0.

Sadie VanAllen scored off a feed from Picco with 4 minutes left in the half, and Picco capped her hat trick in the final minute to close out the first-half scoring.

Junior keeper Kait Clark played in the field in the second half, and netted her first career goal in the 59th minute to make it 10-0.

“Kait Clark scored her first career goal today,” said Hogan. “She took on the goalie 1-v-1, and tipped it past her, sliding the ball on the ground.”

Waverly had a 22-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Clark had one save in net for the Lady Wolverines, and Lea VanAllen recorded four saves in the second half.
Waverly, now 8-1, returns to action Thursday night at Notre Dame.
