IAC BOYS SOCCER: WAVERLY, NEWFIELD BATTLE TO 0-0 DOUBLE-OT DRAW (17 PHOTOS) (2019-10-01)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY "” Waverly and Newfield battled to a, 0-0, double-overtime draw here Tuesday afternoon in IAC boys soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

"This was a hard-fought game that both teams wanted pretty badly," said Wavily coach Eric Ryck. "It ended up being a battle of the goalkeepers.

"We had a bunch of opportunities in the first half. Our striker Peyton Bowen was able to get behind their back line quite readily," noted Ryck. "This was our highest shot total of the season, unfortunately, we found everything but the back of the net. We had three or four shots carom off the crossbar.

"Obviously we would have really liked to come away with a win, but all in all, I am really happy with way the boys played," added Ryck. "Everyone on the team gave a little extra tonight, and played some of the best soccer they have all season."

Waverly outshot Newfield 14-12, while the Trojans had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Cameron McIsaac had 12 saves in net for the Wolverines, while Newfield's Jacob Wright had 11 saves.

Waverly, now 1-6-1, returns to action Thursday at Trumansburg.
