Valley Sports ReportLITCHFIELD - Waverly had five runners in the top eight, including the top two finishers - seniors Sheridan Talada and Elizabeth Fritzen, to run away with the team title at the annual Tom Koons Valley Cross Country meet here Thursday at the old Litchfield Elementary School course.
Waverly tallied 23 placement points, and Athens had 51. Sayre fielded an incomplete team.
Talada clocked in at 17:32, and Fritzen finished in 18:26, while Waverly senior Paige Ackley was fifth in a time of 20:44, sophomore Aubrey Akins was seventh in 23:46, junior Hali Jenner was eighth in 24:03, senior Morgan Lee was 13th in 26:51, and Kaleigh Akins was 15th in 28:22.
Freshman Emma Bronson led Athens with a fourth-place finish in 19:48, while sophomore Elizabeth Carey (24:35), sophomore Emily King (26:09), freshman Arin Rockwell (26:09) finished 10th through 12th, respectively, and sophomore Raven McCarthy-Gardner finished 14th in 28:03.
Sayre senior Kayla Hughey finished third in a time of 18:57 to lead the Lady Redskins, while junior Lucy Coller was sixth in 22:51, and freshman Corey Ault was ninth in 24:11.
