TIOGA CENTER — Candor pulled out a pair of hard-fought decisions in the first two sets on its way to a sweep of arch-rival Tioga here Monday night to clinch the IAC South Small School Division for the second year in a row.
Candor, now 13-0, won the first two sets by identical scores of 25-23, then closed out the match with a 25-16 decision.
In the second set, Tioga sophomore Molly Bombard served up a pair of points to tie the set at 23-23, but the Lady Tigers were whistled for being out of rotation to give Candor a 24-23 lead. Braelyn Hornick then served the final point for the win.
Hornick led Candor with 11 points, including a pair of aces, 27 setter assists, and two blocks, while Kailyn Edwards had nine points and 10 digs, and Megan Henry added six points and eight kills.
Jennah Kareem registered nine kills and 11 digs in the win, while Shelby Swartz had nine kills and two blocks, Asia Curkendall recorded 11 digs and one assist, and Selah Ray chipped in with two blocks.
Sophomore Emme Hall led Tioga with four points, 12 kills and three blocks, while Bombard had three points and seven digs, and senior Giovanna Rossi had six digs, five kills, and two blocks.
Senior Chloe Bellis had two points, 15 setter assists, four kills, and one block for the Lady Tigers, while junior Kaitlyn Perry had nine digs and six assists, sophomore Julia Bellis recorded 14 digs and two kills, senior Madison Macumber added four assists, four digs, and two kills, and senior Bri Rossi chipped in with 18 assists.
Tioga, 9-4, returns to action Friday at O-M.
